Role in Ottawa

In Ottawa, Mr. Easter works tirelessly during sitting hours to represent his constituents. Every day, Mr. Easter holds meetings with various groups, attends caucus and committee hearings and meetings, speaks in the House of Commons, and participates in votes.

In the current 42nd Parliament, Mr. Easter is the Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance, where he facilitates pre-budget consultations, reviews financial legislation, oversees proposed expenditures of the Department of Finance and Canadian Revenue Agency, as well as other areas.

Mr. Easter is Chair of the Canada-US Inter-Parliamentary Group, which holds regular association meetings in both countries.

In past roles, he has served as the now defunct Solicitor General. As Solicitor General, Mr. Easter oversaw five agencies for the national security and public safety of Canadians – the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Correctional Services Canada, the National Parole Board and National Firearms Registry. As Solicitor General, Mr. Easter also reached agreements with the Provinces and introduced legislation for a sex offender registry which became law in the next Parliament.

Additionally, Mr. Easter was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.
