OTTAWA, June 15, 2016 – On behalf of all members of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group, Co-Chairs MP Wayne Easter and Senator Janis Johnson, expressed condolences to United States Ambassador Bruce Heyman in the wake of Sunday’s tragedy in Orlando, Florida.
In a letter to US Ambassador Heyman, the Co-Chairs stated:
“It is with horror and disbelief that we learned of this unprecedented massacre of innocent civilians in the early hours of Sunday, June 12. There can be no doubt that this was a hate crime targeting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community (LGBT).
Canadians stand with the victims and their families in this time of sorrow. This event also serves as a stark reminder to all of us of the dire need to further educate and entrench the rights of sexual minorities within our society and throughout the world.”
